The tragic death, disability, and chaos wrought by the COVID-19 are fading from collective memory. The pandemic created a global health crisis that led to more than 7 million reported deaths, an estimated 28 million excess deaths, and profound health, economic, and social disruption. It exposed critical failures in pandemic preparedness and weaknesses in social and health systems. Yet even though the risk of pandemics is growing, the world has failed to be ready for the next one. On Sept 21, a new Lancet Commission report is published, The National University of Singapore (NUS)–Lancet Pandemic Readiness through Institutions, Mobilising Communities, and Equity (PRIME) Commission.
